Screening Tests
Other things done to the newborn while still in the hospital include a newborn screening blood test. The test is done by a heelstick to detect 5 or more rare diseases (Hypothyroidism, sickle cell anemia, galactosemia, and PKU are some examples). If detected early, they can be treated. A Hearing screening test also is performed at the Hospital. Please bring the result to the office on your first visit. If your baby is discharged before 48 hours let us know.
