Signs of Illness for the First Three Months
All babies 2 months of age or less with a temperature greater than or equal to 100.5 F degrees rectally must be reported to the office. Sometimes this is the only way a baby can "tell us" that they are sick.
Other signs of possible illness that we should be made aware of are:
Vomiting, especially projectile (not just spitting up) especially if bloody or green in color.
Refusing to eat more than two or three times in a row.
Frequent (6 or more) loose, watery stools a day.
Decrease in baby's activity; sleeping constantly or difficulty in awakening.
Any unusual rashes
Please do rectal temperatures on all babies: it is the most accurate. Keep the thermometer in place 3 minutes after shaking the thermometer down. Ear thermometers are not accurate in babies under 12 months of age.
